Consultative General Cardiology

Assessments & Care Plans

A consultative cardiology visit is the right choice when something specific needs to be sorted out — a symptom, an abnormal test, a murmur, or a question your primary care physician wants a cardiologist's read on. Dr. Kedan conducts a thorough history and exam, runs in-office diagnostics including POCUS, EKG, and echocardiography, and provides a clear opinion and written plan. You leave the visit with answers, not another referral.

What's Included

  • Thorough cardiovascular history review and focused physical examination
  • POCUS (point-of-care ultrasound) performed by Dr. Kedan at every visit
  • In-office EKG and same-day formal echocardiogram when indicated
  • Targeted lab work — lipids, biomarkers, metabolic panels — as needed
  • Clear plain-language explanation of findings and treatment options
  • Detailed written report sent to your referring or primary care physician

How This Helps You

You get a focused expert opinion rather than a fragmented series of appointments and reports. POCUS at the bedside lets Dr. Kedan answer real-time questions — is the heart squeezing normally, is this swelling cardiac, is this rhythm concerning — without waiting weeks for separate imaging. The diagnostic loop tightens from months to a single visit.

Who This Is For

  • Patients with chest discomfort, shortness of breath, palpitations, or lightheadedness
  • People with newly diagnosed high blood pressure or abnormal labs
  • Patients with an incidental murmur or abnormal EKG noted elsewhere
  • Anyone with unexplained fatigue, leg swelling, or reduced exercise tolerance
  • Patients referred by a PCP, OB-GYN, or other specialist for cardiac input
  • Self-referring patients who want a baseline cardiology evaluation

What to Expect at Your Visit

Consultations are scheduled for 60+ minutes — enough time for a full history, exam, in-office diagnostics, and an unhurried discussion of findings. The visit starts on time and ends when the conversation is actually done. A written report is sent to your referring physician within days, and you receive a copy along with direct contact for follow-up questions.

Why Cardiolucent

Dr. Kedan personally handles every visit — history, exam, ultrasound, interpretation, and follow-up — rather than splitting the work across mid-levels and technicians. If a finding needs urgent intervention, the Cedars-Sinai affiliation enables same-day coordination with the appropriate subspecialists. Between visits you reach the physician directly, not a phone tree.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is consultative general cardiology?
It's a focused cardiology evaluation — either at the request of your primary care physician or initiated on your own — to answer a specific cardiac question. Dr. Kedan reviews your history, performs a focused exam, runs in-office diagnostics like echocardiography, EKG, and POCUS, and provides a clear opinion and plan. It's the right visit when something specific needs to be sorted out rather than just monitored.
Do I need a referral to see Dr. Kedan?
No — referrals are welcome and many patients arrive through their primary care physician, but you can also self-refer. Call (310) 304-5555 or use the contact form to schedule directly. If you'd like the report sent to your existing physician, the office handles that coordination.
What symptoms should prompt a cardiology consultation?
Common reasons include chest discomfort, shortness of breath, palpitations or irregular heartbeats, lightheadedness or fainting, unexplained fatigue, leg swelling, or new high blood pressure. Other patients come in to evaluate a murmur, an abnormal EKG, or imaging findings noted incidentally. If you're unsure whether your symptoms warrant a cardiology visit, the office can help triage.
What does POCUS add to my visit?
POCUS — point-of-care ultrasound — is a handheld ultrasound used during the office visit to evaluate heart function, valves, and fluid status at the bedside. It lets Dr. Kedan answer real-time questions like "Is the heart squeezing normally?" or "Is this swelling cardiac?" without waiting for a separate imaging appointment. It's used at every visit and dramatically tightens the diagnostic loop.
What testing might be done during a consultation?
Most visits include a focused physical exam, EKG, POCUS, and often a formal echocardiogram on the same day. Lab work — lipids, biomarkers, metabolic panels — is ordered as needed. If a more specialized study is required (stress imaging, cardiac MRI, extended rhythm monitoring), the office coordinates it through the Cedars-Sinai affiliation.
How long does the visit take?
Consultations are scheduled for 60+ minutes, which is enough time for a full history, exam, in-office diagnostics, and an unhurried discussion of findings. The concierge model means visits start on time and end when the conversation is actually done rather than at the next slot boundary.
Will my primary care doctor receive the results?
Yes. Detailed reports are sent to your referring physician — and to any other specialists you'd like in the loop — so your care remains coordinated. You receive a copy as well, along with a clear explanation of findings and recommendations during the visit itself.
What happens if you find something serious?
If urgent intervention is needed, Dr. Kedan coordinates directly with Cedars-Sinai and the appropriate subspecialists to move quickly, often the same day. For non-urgent findings, you leave with a clear plan, a follow-up schedule, and direct physician communication for questions that come up between visits. You're not left navigating the next step alone.
Is the consultation covered by insurance?
Cardiolucent does not accept Medicare or insurance and bills patients directly. We provide a detailed superbill after the visit that you can submit to your insurance carrier for potential out-of-network reimbursement. The team can quote pricing and answer billing questions before you schedule.
