Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an executive physical and how is it different from a regular checkup?
An executive physical is a deeper, longer health assessment built around the schedule and risk profile of a busy professional. At Cardiolucent, it pairs a complete medical history review and physical exam with advanced cardiac diagnostics — echocardiography, EKG, exercise stress testing, and an advanced lipid and biomarker panel — in a single coordinated visit. A standard annual checkup rarely includes this level of cardiovascular work, and almost never on the same day. You leave with a clear baseline of your heart and metabolic health rather than a referral list.
Who is the executive physical designed for?
It's designed for executives, founders, professionals, and anyone whose schedule doesn't accommodate the typical fragmented workup. It's also a strong fit for people with a family history of heart disease, those crossing into their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond and anyone who feels generally well and wants an authoritative picture of where they actually stand with their health. If you've been deferring a thorough evaluation because of time, this visit is structured to remove that friction.
How long does the executive physical take?
Plan for a half-day visit. The extended consultation alone runs 60+ minutes, and the diagnostics — echocardiogram, EKG, stress testing, and blood draw — are completed in the same office on the same visit when possible. Because Cardiolucent keeps a small patient roster, you're not bouncing between waiting rooms or scheduling follow-ups for each test.
What tests are included?
The core workup includes a comprehensive cardiovascular exam with echocardiography, a resting EKG, exercise stress testing to assess functional capacity, and an advanced lipid panel and metabolic biomarker analysis. POCUS (point-of-care ultrasound) is used at the bedside so findings can be discussed in real time. Additional testing — like coronary calcium scoring or extended rhythm monitoring — can be added if your history or initial results warrant it.
Do I need to fast or prepare in advance?
Yes — because the visit includes a fasting lipid and metabolic panel, plan to fast for 10–12 hours beforehand (water and essential medications are fine). Wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes for the stress test portion. Bring a list of current medications and any recent outside test results so they can be incorporated into your report. We'll send specific instructions when your visit is scheduled.
What do I receive after the visit?
You receive an after-visit summary with a plan of care/call to action that focuses on details from your testing and your cardiovascular risk profile. This includes a personalized health optimization plan with specific goals. Dr. Kedan walks you through the findings directly rather than handing off interpretation to a portal message. The report is structured so you can share relevant sections with your primary care physician or other specialists.
How often should I have an executive physical?
Most patients repeat the full executive physical annually, which is enough to track trends in lipids, imaging, and functional capacity year over year. If you have specific risk factors or are titrating therapy, more focused interim visits may be recommended in between. Dr. Kedan will lay out the cadence as part of your personalized plan.
Is the executive physical covered by insurance?
Cardiolucent does not accept Medicare or insurance and bills patients directly. We provide a detailed superbill after the visit that you can submit to your insurance carrier for out-of-network reimbursement; coverage will depend on your specific plan. Many patients also use HSA or FSA funds toward the visit. Being detached from Medicare and private insurance frees decisions about your care from the constraints of third-party oversight, and you will receive recommendations that are purely directed to improve your health.
How do I book an executive physical?
Call (310) 304-5555 or use our contact form to start the process. Because the visit is built around your schedule, the team will coordinate timing, fasting instructions, and any records transfer in advance so the day itself is efficient.
